About the Instagram portrait post size
The Instagram portrait size is 1080 by 1350 pixels, a 4:5 ratio. It is the recommended feed portrait and the size most templates are built at. It is no longer the tallest the feed goes, though: Instagram added native 3:4 support on 29 May 2025, so 1080 by 1440 is now the tallest single feed image, and taller art than that is still cropped back rather than shown in full. Portrait beats square either way, because it occupies more vertical space as people thumb past. If your artwork is taller than 3:4, add margins yourself rather than letting Instagram decide where to cut.

- : Corrected the Instagram feed ceiling in nine places. 4:5 has not been the tallest single feed image since 29 May 2025, when Adam Mosseri announced native 3:4 support for single photos and carousels. 1080 by 1440 is now the tallest, and because profile tiles are also 3:4 it is the only feed ratio the grid crops by nothing.
