About the Facebook profile picture size
Meta documents the Facebook Page profile picture as 320 by 320 pixels for best quality, and that is the number to export at. It is always cropped to a circle, and Facebook renders it at 176 by 176 on computers, 196 by 196 on smartphones and 36 by 36 on most feature phones. Because of the circle mask the corners are cut, so keep a face or logo centred with a little margin. Uploading a larger square is harmless and gives Facebook a cleaner source to downscale from, but 320 by 320 is what Meta actually asks for, and Meta suggests PNG over JPG when the picture carries a logo or text.

- 01320 by 320 is Meta's own recommendation; upload a square and it is cropped to a circle.
- 02It renders at 196 by 196 on phones and 176 by 176 on computers, so avoid fine detail.
- 03Keep the subject centred so the circle mask does not clip it.
- 04Meta suggests PNG for a profile picture that contains a logo or text.
