About the Twitch profile picture size

Twitch's upload tool is widely reported to recommend a profile picture of 256 by 256 pixels and to accept a minimum of 200 by 200; anything larger is downscaled. Uploading at a higher resolution, 800 by 800 is a good target, gives Twitch cleaner source material to shrink from, which helps on large monitors and mobile alike. Unlike Instagram or X, the picture displays as a circle across Twitch, so keep a face or logo centred with margin around the edge.

How this spec was checked

Platform sizes change without notice, so this entry records what it was verified against rather than stating a number and hoping it holds. Last checked July 2, 2026.

ConventionTwitch does not publish a size for this surface. The number below is the one the industry has standardised on, which is a useful answer but not a claim about Twitch.

Twitch's help portal renders client-side and could not be read directly, so neither the 256 by 256 recommendation nor the 200 by 200 minimum below could be quoted from Twitch's own page. Both are the figures reported consistently for the upload tool; the 800 by 800 upload advice is simply practice.

Every spec on this site carries one of those two labels. See the cheat sheet for the full split, and the changelog for every correction with the date it happened.
